Just before Wings could have started the third race of the Short Track Slalom on the Day 4 of the WISSA 2016, the ice of the Lake Võrtsjärv was not co-operating with the organizers anymore. Ice cracked on the Sleds/Wings race course just between the start and finish area creating a large open cleavage in between and leaving some race officials on the other side of it. Luckily all competitors and race officials were saved and nothing dramatic happened. But the WISSA Worlds 2016 had to end there to keep all participants safe and secure. Despite of all jokes what the weather and Jack Frost did have in store for the organizers this week, the event was a success and the number of races close to maximum were executed to all classes.
What an outcome for the WISSA 2016 Worlds in such conditions so far – maximum program!
5 races executed for Sleds and Wings and 4 races for Kites on Day 3.
Having 10 races of Course Race discipline done with one discard for Sleds, Latvian Aleksandrs Leontjevs has secured his leading position with 19.1 points. On the second position with 30.4 points is the current leader of Slalom discipline, Lithuanian Paulius Voverys. Achieving 4 bullets today and one DNF (mast broken) today, Janmarek Maszkiewicz from Poland jumped from the 6th position to the third place in Course Race discipline.
In the Wing class the current top 3 retained their positions. With 4 bullets and one third finish today Johan Sjöstrand from Sweden secured his leadership with 8.9 points in total. With a consistent racing another fellow countryman Carl James is on the second position and Rainer Salo from Finland secured his third place with one bullet, one second and three third finishes today.
Kites did have a Course Race discipline today. Two discards came into effect after 12 races done. Not much chances for other competitors left from Swiss Ronny Bollhalder in Kite on Ski class. His advantage ahead of the following fellow countryman Jonas Lengwiler is 21.7 pts!! Only one point separates third Swiss Michael Kaspar from the second place.
In the Kite on Ski/Skate class the leader is also Ronny Bollhalder with 10.9 pts in total. On the second position 16.9 pts behind the leader is Robin Larsson from Sweden, who got two bullets, one fourth and one seventh finish today. Swiss Michael Kaspar is on the third position 5.9 pts behind of the second.
In the Kite on Snowboards class the leader is still Alexey Burukhin from Russia with 12,8 points-advantage ahead of another Russian Igor Danilov being second. On the third position is now Nikita Sokolov.
Friday ‘s discipline for Sleds and Wings will be Slalom, for Kites the discipline will be Course Race.
Wind of 10-12 m/s and still +6 degrees C. Organizers are really happy about the outcome of the first two days. 4 races for Kites executed in Course Race discipline and 5 races plus 3 qualification races executed in Slalom Downwind discipline for the Sleds.
Day 2 results have been posted to the website http://wissa.purjelaualiit.ee/?page_id=15
Leaders of the day:
Sleds/Slalom – Paulius Voverys LTU
Wings/ Slalom – Carl James SWE
Kites Ski/Skate on Course Race – Ronny Bollhalder SUI
Kites Snowboard on Course Race – Alexey Burukhin
The best of the GPS Speed Race discipline so far – current standings:
Kites with Skis – Felix Kersten GER – 93,81121 km/h = 50,654 knots
Sleds – Annika Valkna EST – 72,13355 km/h = 38,949 knots
Despite the quite spring-like weather conditions with rain and +6 degrees Celsius, the organizers considered the Day 1 of the WISSA Worlds 2016 in Estonia a success. Five races in Course Race discipline for the sleds and wings and four races for the kites were executed – this is sufficient the world championship considered to be completed.
In the Sleds Class was victorious 2014 WISSA two-time world champion in the Course Race and Short Track Slalom – Latvian Aleksandrs Leontjevs from club Surfline. He achieved three first places, fourth and seventh place and is leading with 6.1 points in total. He is followed by Paulius and Audrius Voverys from Lithuania as second and third respectively. 54 Entries in Sleds’ Class.
In the Wing Class Johan Sjöstrand from Sweden is the leader with 4.1 points in total. To Johan’s account three bullets and two second places were collected. Johan is followed by another surfer from Sweden – Carl James with 6.7 points in total and Finn Rainer Salo with 9.7 points as third. 12 Entries in Wings’ Class.
Kite Class was divided into Ski Fleet and Snowboard Fleet. In Kites with Skis three Swiss guys are leading the fleet. Ronny Bollhalder with one bullet and three second places is the leader followed by Michael Kaspar and Jonas Lengwiler. In the Kites with Snowboard Russians are in Top 3. Alexey Burukhin got three bullets and one second achieving 4.1 points in total followed by Igor Danilov with 6.7 points in total and Igor Zakhartsev with 12 points.
Racing will continue on Wednesday, February 10 at 10 am and the discipline of the day is Short Track Slalom.

Talisurfi maailmameistrivõistluste esimese päeva liidrid tulevad Lätist, Rootsist ja Šveitsist
Vaatamata suisa kevadistele ilmaoludele said korraldajad talisurfi maailmameistrivõistluste esimese päeva igati õnnestunuks lugeda.
0,3 punkti kaugusele jääb 2013.a WISSA MMi slaalomisõidu hõbe – Paulius Voverys Leedust (klubi A.R.V.), kes nädalavahetusel Eesti Meistrivõistluste etapil siinsamas Võrtsjärvel tuli kolmandaks. Paulius võitis täna kaks esikohta, teise ja kaks kolmandat kohta. Kolmandal kohal on Eesti MV etapil kuuendaks tulnud teine leedukas klubist A.R.V., Audrius Voverys, sõites välja kolm teist kohta, ühe kolmanda ja ühe seitsmenda koha. Parima eestlasena lõpetas esimese võistluspäeva Artur Gross – 2014.a WISSA MMi kursisõidu distsipliini teine. Parima naisena kelkude klassi kursisõidus lõpetas esimese võistluspäeva soomlane Marianne Rautelin kahekümne neljandal positsioonil. Kelkude klassis osaleb 54 võistlejat.
Kelkude klassi tulemused
Tiibade klassis on 4,1 punktiga liidrikohal Johan Sjöstrand klubist Blackens Isseglare, kes sõitis välja kolm esikohta ja kaks teist kohta. Teisel kohal on 6,7 punktiga teine rootslane Carl James klubist ÖKF, kellele järgneb Rainer Salo Soomest, jäädes teisest kohast maha kolm punkti. Tiibade klassis on võistlejaid 12.
Tiibade klassi tulemused
Lohesuuskade klassis kursisõidu distsipliinis on esikolmiku kohad hõivanud Šveitsi surfarid. Ühe esikoha ja kolme teise koha järel on liider Ronny Bollhalder, kaks punkti jääb temast maha Michael Kaspar ning 15 punktiga on kolmandal kohal Jonas Lengwiler. Lohesuuskade Eesti parimana on Madis Kallas klubis Kite Team Estonia kaheteistkümnendal kohal. Lohesuuskade klassis on 20 osavõtjat.
Lohe-lumelaudade klassi kursisõidu parimad tulevad Venemaalt. Täna kolm esikohta ja ühe teise koha välja sõitnud Alexey Burukhin juhib võistlust 4,1 punktiga, ühe esikoha ja kolme teise kohaga on teisel kohal Igor Danilov ja neli kolmandat kohta saanud Igor Zakhartsev on kolmandal kohal.
Lohede tulemused
Talisurfi maailmameistrivõistlused WISSA 2016 jätkuvad kolmapäeval, 10. veebruaril kell 10 hommikul. Päeva distsipliiniks on lühiraja slaalom – Short Track Slalom.

February 9, 2016 – Võrtsjärv, Estonia – Winter sports – Ice and Snow Sailing – which originally started from Estonia, celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2016. The WISSA 2016 World Championship taking place on Lake Võrtsjärv on February 8-13 is the fifth time for Estonia to organize the title event of the ice and snow sailing or wintersurf as the sports has been called now. 89 competitors are representing 13 nations in three competing classes – sleds, kites and wings.
Extraordinary weather conditions in Estonia during the past couple of weeks changed the ice on the Haapsalu Bay – the initial location of the WISSA 2016 venue – unsafe and it was an urgent task for the Organizing Committee to check all the alternative options to find another venue in Estonia (Haapsalu Tagalaht, Haapsalu Eeslaht, Väike Viik in Haapsalu, Topu and Võrtsjärv). Fortunately they found the best ice conditions on the Lake Võrtsjärv, in the middle of Estonia and the venue was changed a week before the event.
The pre-event of the WISSA 2016 – Winter Windsurfing Estonian Championship – was held on Lake Võrtsjärv on February 6-7. Altogether 49 participants were competing on the sleds and kites during two days. 14 races were held for the sleds and 9 for the kites during two days of racing. Kites had the course race and sleds were sailing slalom discipline.

The opening ceremony of WISSA 2016 was held on February 8 at 6 pm in the regatta centre in Valma. Will Tuthill, the President of WISSA together with the main organizer Kalev Allikveer remembered the 40 years long history of winter ice and snow sailing and were happy to see the representatives of 13 nations at WISSA Worlds 2016. Principal Race Officer Madis Ausman welcomed the participants on the race course and wished fair winds.
The world champions in three classes will be found out with three disciplines raced – Course Race, Short Track Slalom (STS) and GPS Speed. The discipline of the 1st day of the event is course race. The morning in Valma was not very promising – it was raining heavily and the temperature was +6 degrees of Celsius. The Skippers’ Meeting was held at 10am and postponement was announced ashore in the first place, but after checking the ice conditions AP flag was lowered for the sleds and wings in the first place and soon after also for the kites. The first day of the WISSA 2016 Worlds is in full swing and the organizers have thumbs up for having enough races done to complete the championship.
Preliminary numbers of the participants:
- Sleds – 54
- Kites – 26 : 6 in snowboard fleet and 20 in ski fleet
- Wings – 13
- Nations represented – 13: Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland, United States and Estonia.

Eesti parimatest talisurfaritest on stardis slaalomi spetsialist ja 2015.a Eesti meister Lehar Jürimäe. Kindlasti on kohal kiiruse- ja kursisõidu guru, ala üks leiutajaid Kalev Allikveer. Vanameistril on kahekümne viie maailmameistrivõistluse kogemus. Eesti lohesurfareid esindab ka 2014.aasta Eesti meister Madis Kallas. Osalejate nimekirjas on võistlejad Valgevenest, Kanadast, Tšehhi Vabariigist, Soomest, Prantsusmaalt, Saksamaalt, Lätist, Leedust, Poolast, Venemaalt, Rootsist, Šveitsist, Ukrainast, Ameerika Ühendriikidest ja Eestist. Osalejate nimekiri on leitav siin.
Kelkude Eesti MV tulemused
Lohede kolm parimat tulid Venemaalt. Esikoha võttis Andrei Balyakin 8,2 punktiga, teise koha sai Nikita Kodanev 17,4 punktiga ning kolmandaks tuli Max Feudoroff 21,7 punktiga. Eesti parimana oli Madis Kallas kaheksas. Lohede Eesti MV tulemused

Talisurfi Maailmameistrivõistluste – WISSA Worlds 2016 avamine on täna õhtul, võistlussõidud on planeeritud toimuma 9.-13. veebruaril, teisipäevast laupäevani. Ilmaolud on kõike muud kui jääspordivõistlust soosivad, kuid korraldajad on optimistlikud ja loodavad võistluse siiski peetud saada.
Talisurfi spordiala on sündinud Eestis. 1973 ilmusid Ain Vilde kaudu Nõukogude Eestisse esimesed purjelaua joonised.
Võistluse korraldajad on Kalev Allikveer koostöös Eesti Purjelaualiidu ja WISSA’ga (World Ice and Snow Sailing Association – Maailma Jää- ja Lumepurjetamise Assotsiatsioon). WISSA 2016 MM-i toetavad Eleon, Palmse Mehaanikakoda, Baltic Hotel Promenaadi, Haapsalu Linn ja Eesti Purjelaualiit, koostööpartnerid on Eesti Kultuurkapital, Talvisurf.fi, Hiberna Iceboards, Eesti Kultuurkapital ning meediapartner on World of Windsurf.

Extraordinary weather conditions during the past days in Estonia have changed the ice on the Haapsalu Bay unsafe. It’s been an urgent task for the Organizing Committee to check all the alternative options to find another venue in Estonia (Haapsalu Tagalaht, Haapsalu Eeslaht, Väike Viik in Haapsalu, Topu and Võrtsjärv) and they have found the best ice conditions on the Lake Võrtsjärv, in the middle of Estonia (from Tallinn 190 km, from Tartu 50 km, from Viljandi 25 km). Ice is really thick and strong there with a light orange pattern on it which is good both for the ski and skate.
Võrtsjärv – February 1st
See the ice report photos of February 1st – the location of the photo you’ll find under “i” – info button while zooming the photo out.
The center of the venue will be either in Vaibla or Valma – distance between these two locations is 8-10 km. It will be decided on Tuesday, where the Race Office will locate.
Accommodation information will be shared on the WISSA 2016 webpage also on Tuesday, February 2nd. There’s enough rooms for all participants – no need to worry. Keep tuned!
Haapsalu Väike Viik – February 1st
Ice report – Lake Harku 31.01.2016
Tomorrow evening we hope to forward the report on ice conditions in Haapsalu.
The WISSA 2016 is planned to be held on the Haapsalu Tagalaht and Eeslaht.
Eeslaht was added to the race areas, because of the recently opened official Haapsalu-Noarootsi ice road, the race area on the Tagalaht is not big enough for the course-racing distance. It can change for the beginning of the event, but this is the case at the moment.
Race Office will be located in Haapsalu, Baltic Hotel Promenaadi.
The 36th WISSA World Championship will be held from February 8th to 13th 2016, on Gulf of Haapsalu, at the wonderful little town Haapsalu, Estonia.
With the event we celebrate 40th anniversary of birth of this sport (Purisuusk). Start of Purisuusk in 1976 at Lake of Harku , Tallinn – 40 years a go.

The organisers of WISSA 2016 are happy to see the great number of entries to the event to be held on February 8th through 13th in Haapsalu, Estonia! There are 88 competitors entered representing 12 nations. Because of the large number of entries it’s been decided to add one more age group division. We are excited to see the 2016 Ice and Snow Sailing Class U17 division World Champion to be awarded in Haapsalu!
With the New Year the Entry Fee for the WISSA Worlds 2016 will increase – hurry up to enter!
2016 WISSA Worlds will take place on February 8th to 13th in Haapsalu, Estonia. It will be the fifth time for Estonia and third time for Haapsalu to organize WISSA title event. The organizers of the 2016 WISSA Worlds in Estonia have some good news for the windsurfers. With the cold front some minus degrees have been lasting for some days in Estonia creating beautiful ice to the smaller lakes. The longer weather predictions keep us optimistic to see the ice on the 2016 WISSA Worlds venue in Haapsalu within the coming week. Thumbs up and fingers crossed!
